The War Outside by Monica Hesse
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Set in an interment camp in 1944 in Crystal City, Texas. The War Outside follows two American teenagers, Margot and Haruko, and their time stuck in an interment camp during WWII for being German American and Japanese American. The story follows their unique friendship and what it was like to be in an American internment camp.

I really enjoyed this story, but it does just end abruptly which I did not like. I always like these kind of stories. I like learning about different parts of America that are often brushed over or even ignored. I like how authors are bringing these different parts of our history to the forefront.

Overall, I really enjoyed it I just wish it would have had an epilogue. There are excepts in the book that make it seem like it is being told later in life, so I would have like to have known what had happened to these characters after being in the camp.
