My Sister, the Serial Killer
by Oyinkan Braithwaite
4 out of 5 stars
My sister is a serial killer.
Korede is a nurse in Lagos, Nigeria. Korede also has to keep her sister’s dark secret of stabbing three of her boyfriends. Korede has cleaned up all of Ayoola’s messes her entire life, including the times she’s killed her boyfriends. Korede will do just about anything for Ayoola, but when Ayoola sets her sights on a doctor at the same hospital Korede works at will she continue? What if Korede has a crush on that doctor? Will Ayoola stab Doctor Tate or will Korede save first?
Braithwaite weaves a dark and twisting story from Korede’s perspective. This book is a short and easy read, but it is so entertaining. I just had to keep reading to see what would happen to the sisters. Braithwaite also does a great job at showing how difficult it can be to make the right choices when someone you love is involved.
My goal for this month is to read more books written by black authors and this book did not disappoint. I did not know much about Nigeria before reading this book, but this book showed me how similar it is to America when it came to things like social media and working in a hospital. I look forward to seeing what else Braithwaite writes in the future.
