Internment by Samira Ahmed
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Set in a near distant future, a new president has been elected with one agenda in mind. Rid America of Muslims, it doesn’t matter if they are US citizens or not. Layla and her family are forced into internment camps for Muslim Americans. Very reminiscent of the internment camps for Japanese Americans during WWII.

Wow, this book felt all to real while I was reading it. It’s not something you would think could happen and then you remember immigrant children are currently being forced to live in camps in the US. Ahmed’s writing made me feel as if I was in the desert with Layla. I could imagine being covered in dirt and waking up in a cramped trailer. My only complaint was I wish there had been an epilogue for some follow up.

Overall, I would totally recommend!

Also, yes I waited until I got to work this morning to use my classroom as a backdrop 🤣
