Honolulu by Alan Brennert
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is my third book by Brennert, and while it is no where near as good as Moloka’i, it still was enjoyable. The story is so beautifully told and descriptive. I really felt like I was in Korea and Honolulu while reading this book.

What I liked: the scenery in this book in great. The picture brides are also great characters and showed me a part of history that I wasn’t very familiar with. I also just enjoyed the historical setting and story. I learned more about Korea and about Hawaii’s history before it became a state.

What I didn’t like: it was a little draggy in places. I think the book could have been a bit shorter and cut out some of the fluff.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and really enjoyed the notes at the end. I had no idea that some of the characters in the book were based on real people. That made it feel even more historically accurate to me.
