Eli’s Promise by Ronald H. Balson
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Eli’s Promise has three timelines throughout the story. The first is set in Poland during the beginning of Germany’s occupation, the second is in an American displacement camp in Germany in 1946, and the last one is Chicago in 1967. Eli Rosen is a Jew who keeps having encounters with Maximillian, a scheming man who will do anything to anyone to live a cushy life. Including making deals with Nazi officials and getting rid of people if it benefits him. Eli makes a promise to those he loves and he does everything to keep it. The timelines keep the story moving and keeps you guessing.

I have read all of Balson’s book and was so excited to get this book when it finally came out. I was interested in how this would go since this was his first stand alone novel. It was still really good, but I did miss the Lockhart and Taggart banter and point of view. There also were some corny lines, that reminded me of a bad 70’s detective movie, but overall it was good.

Overall, I would recommend this book and can’t wait for his next novel. He has not disappointed me yet. If you haven’t read any of Balson’s novels then this would be a good starting place since it is a stand alone novel.
