Book 115- last book from 2020
The Flight Girls by Noelle Salazar
⭐️⭐️

One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to books is when they are billed as historical fiction, but it’s pretty much just a romance novel set during a historical event. This book had so much potential, and it didn’t live up to any of it. I was excited to read about the women in WASP during WWII, because most books I have read don’t focus on it. Sometimes it will get a brief mention, but never the focus of the book.

This book even starts out being set right before Pearl Harbor, but less than a chapter is actually dedicated to that day and what would have happened or have been seen. I just figured that would have been quite a bit of the story, but nope.

The main character is also annoying. Her life is perfect and boys line up to date her. While all these tragic things happen to the other characters nothing happened to her. Also, this woman does not even remotely act like someone from the forties. It’s just a bit ridiculous. She gets mad because her friend, who is overseas fighting in a war, doesn’t respond to her letter right away. Well, mail was not reliable and he is fighting in a war!

I think if all you are looking for a romance novel set during WWII then this book will probably be entertaining to you, but if you actually like the book to focus on historical events then skip this book. I don’t think the author did enough research for this to be classified as historical fiction. She mentions they watched Pearl Harbor news reels on TV if that helps you decide on this book.

  1. That book has been sitting on my shelf for about two years. I couldn’t get past the first chapter. I will try again with romance and not war as the focus.
