Beneath a Scarlett Sky by Mark Sullivan
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m not sure why I waited so long to read this book, but it was so good. Based on the true story of Pino Lella and his time helping Jews escape into Switzerland and being the driver of one of Hitler’s right hand men. It almost seemed to crazy to be true. How could a teenager do so much during the war?

I enjoyed this book, because it talked about the war in Italy which does not get enough attention. I don’t know how many books I’ve read based in France, Germany, Great Britain, and even in Russia. I’ve read very few books set in Italy during the war, maybe just one or two other books. So, I was able to learn a lot from this book. I had no idea how much the Catholic Church helped Jewish people escape to safety during the war. At the end of the book, it states that out of 48,000 Jews in Italy that 41,000 survived 😳. That is amazing, why did I not know this?!

I would totally recommend this book and regret waiting so long to read it. Also, according to Goodreads it is going to be made into a movie starring Tom Holland, so I cannot wait for that. Hopefully the movie does the book justice.
